Fort Worth, Texas --- From the Fort Worth Star Telegram
BEDFORD — A former Texas Health Fort Worth hospital nurse has been sentenced to 10 years probation for driving her sports utility vehicle while intoxicated through barricades and running over a city employee as he worked on a water project last year on an Airport Freeway service road.
Rudy Ramos, who was awarded the Bedford Employee Commitment Award in 2007, survived, but he was severly injured, suffering a shattered pelvis, torn ligaments, damaged cartilage and a dislocated knee. He also had severe lacerations to his head and face.
Lisa Cleveland also hit a second public works employee and continued through the construction site until she stopped in the parking lot of a nearby bar.
In a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, Cleveland, 42, of Bedford, pleaded guilty on May 15 to intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid in a Fort Worth courtroom. According to police reports, Cleveland had a blood alcohol level of 0.22. The legal limit for driving in Texas is 0.08.
Cleveland told police that she had just driven to Bedford from Grapevine.
