Car Wreck Likely Due to Drunk Driving

WEATHERFORD — The driver who caused a major accident Tuesday has been identified by Weatherford Police.

Authorities arrested 28-year-old Joshua Alvey of Bridgeport on charges relating to a pursuit which ended in a crash that sent a father and son to area hospitals with “life-threatening injuries.”

Late Tuesday afternoon, Weatherford Police officers were dispatched to the area of 100 South Lamar Street regarding a complaint of an intoxicated driver. While officers were being dispatched, authorities received two complaints of hit and run accidents involving the same suspect vehicle. Those accidents were minor with no injuries reported.

Weatherford officers located the vehicle on Fort Worth Highway and attempted stop the driver. Alvey reportedly failed to yield and led officers on a pursuit east to Hudson Oaks. Reports say he then turned around and headed back westbound into Weatherford.

As officers continued to pursue him, Alvey allegedly continued westbound until he reached the intersection of Palo Pinto Street and South Bowie Drive, where he struck a silver Honda Accord two-door. The momentum of the impact carried both vehicles through the intersection into a third vehicle.

The Honda was occupied by an 8-year-old child and his 49-year-old father. The child was transported by CareFlite helicopter from the scene to Cook Children’s Hospital and his father was transported by ambulance to JPS Hospital. According to WPD, both the father and son suffered critical injuries. A 40-year-old female in the third vehicle was transported by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

“This was a very severe accident that resulted in very critical injuries to several of the victims involved,” Lt. Chris Crawford stated. “The investigation will take several days and the suspect will likely be charged with several felony offenses as a result of his reckless actions.”

Alvey appeared to have non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Harris Hospital in Fort Worth. He was later released into the custody of Weatherford Police Department.

Alvey was arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury and evading arrest. He was taken to the Parker County Jail.
